SAND PICTURES

SAND PICTURES, WHAT IS IT?

A sand painting is constructed of two panes of glass glued together with some distance between them. The space between these panes is filled with three types of coloured sand and water. The hermetically sealed panes are placed in wooden, aluminium or plastic frames. An air cushion is required to support the sand along the entire length of the image. Through the gaps between the air bubbles, grains of sand enter and fall to the bottom to create unique sand landscapes. When all the sand has been used up and the picture is no longer satisfactory, the picture is turned on its base and the whole process begins again.

The size of the air cushion in a sand painting sometimes changes. Temperature, humidity or pressure changes affect these changes. The panes are glued with silicone, which allows water vapour to pass through, so these changes are completely natural. We can carry out the adjustment ourselves, the steps to be followed for the correct adjustment of the image are shown in the illustrations below.

In addition, you can see the adjustment operation in the video at: https://youtu.be/1vqMvFozPmQ

Note: Please take extra care when handling the syringe and needle. Dispensing water or sucking in air should be done in very small doses, as the space between the panes is very small and overdosing risks cracking the panes. If the water is tinted it can stain everything around it. If you have any problems which require additional information from us, please describe them in detail and send us an e-mail, the address of which can be found at the end of this page.
